in response to ur last para– i dunno how supportive the environment is for interns over there in the US, but if ever in doubt, always always seek advise from your seniors. intern year is the best time to get all the advise and help u can, cos u’re the most junior, and most ppl dun expect much from u, esp when it comes to the more complicating cases. i mean, no one’s gonna expect u to perform a chest drain insertion unsupervised, rite?

if u’re genuinely worried abt a pt, and thr’s no senior registrars u can call upon, there’s always the option of calling a MET Call/ Code Blue (granted, things mite be different in the States). This way, it’s guaranteed that the pt will be seen by senior medical staff.
