Crisis Intervention

Sasha choking the instructor

Although it definitely sucked to have to get up early on a Saturday, and spend most of my day in class, I really enjoyed our mandatory “Crisis Intervention Training” at the hospital today. It was specifically for all of us psychiatry interns. The class involves identifying patients/people who are “escalating” and trying to intervene before things get out of control. But it also involves dealing with the (fairly likely, unfortunately) possibility that we might be attacked by a patient at some point, and trained us to handle the situation in the least physically aggressive way possible. Although I completed this same course many years ago before becoming a psychiatric technician, and used it on a daily basis for my job, it was a great refresher, as it’s been about 7 years since I’ve needed it in an “official” arena!

Good job!

Wow, sounds like an interesting session. I never knew that you had to go through your seminars. I guess you really do need to know how to handle yourself in these situations, huh?
