I Passed the USMLE Step 3!!!
That’s right folks, I have passed the last of the United States Medical Licensing Exams. I will never have to take another USMLE exam, EVER! I will have to pass my psychiatry board exams in the future, but that’s a whole ‘nother ball of wax.
I found out that I passed the Step 3 earlier today. Right after I read my results (I didn’t do too shabby, either), there was a medical emergency on my unit. It was almost ironic, given the fact that the Step 3 is the last time that I will be “officially” tested on “medical” information (not that I don’t have to know it, but I won’t really be tested!).
Today was another day where I felt even more like a doctor. I gave orders to nursing staff, I was the “doctor on scene” for the medical emergency. It’s still all very mystifying and strange. But people call me doctor, and expect me to respond like a doctor. And although I was sure that I would not have a clue what to do, or how to be a doctor, the very, very, very strange thing is that I actually do come up with appropriate responses. I know way more than I feel like I know, and that is a very wonderful thing!
Time to run some errands and have some dinner and a celebratory glass of wine for passing the last of my USMLE exams. Life is good.
