T’was the Night Before Christmas

An adaptation by me. I spent my Christmas Eve in the psychiatric emergency room…

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the emergency room
Not a creature was stirring, not even a loon.
The Haldol and Ativan were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that Dr. Campbell soon would be there.

The patients were nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of discharges danced in their heads.
And mamma in her ‘kerchief, and I in my furry cap,
Had just settled our brains for a long winter’s nap.

I'm a Squirrel Watcher...

It’s obviously been a long week for me….

I can’t help but feel even more empathy towards the patients I saw and treated today. I can’t even begin to comprehend what it would be like to be locked up in a psychiatric emergency room on Christmas eve…

To all of my patients, to all of my friends and family, to the world…I wish you all a very merry Christmas.

Happy holidays, and good night!

I was there on christmas eve, a few years ago. I am not christian, but the resident who treated me was. She was so kind, genuinely empathic, helpful, and thorough, and did not leave til after 8PM. She spoke with me multiple times, with her attending, with me again, with each of the different admission options in assorted hospitals. I was scared of some of the options and she went out of her way to talk with me extensively and explain why she thought each one would or wouldn’t be good for me. She commented once about it being hard to be in the CPEP on Christmas, at which point I realized that she was Christian (also note the cross necklace. oops.). She was so tactful and never once made me feel that I was keeping her from anything, let alone a major holiday for her. I will be forever grateful for her kindness and gentleness that christmas eve, all the more incredible because in caring for me, she was prevented from celebrating her own holiday.

I don’t know you, but you get serious points for having an old-school Little Foot.

    Just thought you should know.
