I’m a Loser

Today was my first day of inpatient medicine as an intern. I spent 13 hours at the hospital, which is actually way less than I anticipated, so I’m happy for that. However, I have to go to sleep in an hour, and will still get less than 7 hours of sleep (I’m a sleepaholic), so I will have to share all the gory details at a later date. The gist? There were codes. I got paged once every couple of minutes. I felt like a loser on many occasions due to my general lack of knowledge about basic items like how to get into the bathroom, how to find phlebotomy supplies, and what the hell to do when I arrived at a code (answer = stall until my resident arrives).

The night before medicine...

I’m tired. I’m hungry. I’m going to sleep.

Oy, you poor thing. Medicine rotation sucks. And you’re in a busy city hospital. Hang in there! There is a light at the end of the 6 month tunnel
