A Breath of Fresh Air

Today was my first day of inpatient neurology.

I had time to breathe today.

I had time to eat.

A short 10 hour day.

It was absolutely invigorating.

The Drunk Tank

I had time to actually think about what was going on with my patients. I was paged only 5 times, and all of the pages were actually about medicine patients, so I didn’t have to deal with them.

I went in at 6:30 a.m. but got home shortly after 5 p.m. I actually have time to respond to my overflowing inbox tonight, so expect some replies if you have been waiting.

I made 3 phone calls to places that I have needed to call for the past month, but was unable to call because I never had the time to do so before.

I am going to eat a real dinner tonight.

The neurology residents are not mean. They laugh. They eat. This is 360 degrees different from medicine.

This is awesome.

I’ll likely spend this week catching up on things which have gone by the wayside during my month of medicine.

Maybe I’ll even be able to run during the week.

I’m so happy to catch my breath.

Air, sweet air.

Photos: My doggies, post walk, in the “drunk tank.” Even though Scope was wearing the “cone of shame” I think they were both happy to see me home again.

Congratulations on surviving your month in medicine!
I work in a clerical role in a hospital (in New Zealand) when I’m not at university trying to become a doctor – it’s so refreshing and intriguing to get a look at things from the other side of the reception desk. When my study habits are lacking, and I feel I need a little motivation, reading your blog always seems to steer me in the right direction. Thank you so much for your insight!
