Oh What a Life
“Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Romania.”
- Dorothy Parker
My life changed drastically as of yesterday. I started a 2 week rotation (I have my vacation the latter 2 weeks of this month) in out-patient medicine. However, I am now treating “medical” patients instead of “psychiatric” patients. In addition, my schedule has drasticaly changed. I don’t want to incriminate myself, but let’s just say that my hours at this new clinic and much shorter than my previous rotation. In addition, we have Tuesdays off! Yes, Tuesdays OFF!
While all of this sounds like wonderful news (and it actually is), it comes at a cost for an obsessive/compulsive person like myself. I had become quite comfortable at working 70 – 80 hours a week. I had everything timed to the minute so that I could do everything that I needed to get done. Now, I have a lot more hours of free time on my hands, so this means that I have to fill my extra time with “other stuff.” A “normal” person might just use the extra hours to relax, and maybe chill out. But of course, I’m not normal.
Today, I woke up on time, as I normally would and then went for a seriously, seriously, seriously awesome 12.12 mile run with my two doggies from Brooklyn over the Williamsburg Brige into Manhattan and then through Chinatown to the Brooklyn Bridge and back over to Brooklyn. The weather was superb, and it was one of the best runs I’ve been on in my life.
When I came home I finished an assignment for one of my psychiatry classes. I then scrubbed my bathtub from head to toe and worked on some computer training modules.
Next up, it’s shower time and then I’m heading to my fabu tattoo artist to get some more ink done.
Oh what a life, indeed!
