NO. Emphatically NO. Most countries around the world dont even need you to finish and undergraduate degree before entering medical school. Its already a huge waste of time and money in North America, making doctors take useless undergraduate filler classes in Art History and French Literature, when all they want to do is become doctors. Germany, France, UK, Australia, India, Russia, all have medical education as an undergraduate degree. They turn out perfectly good doctors, many of whom come to America for specialty training, and practice here. They manage fine. Why waste the best part of a young persons 20′s, in doing useless things which add no value to the practice of medicine, and gaining proficiency in the art of medicine?

I wish I could double like this….this is so true…I am not sure why we here in America put emphasis on things that don’t matter…when they could use that energy and time on things of value, like professionalism classes and how to interact with patients of different cultures.  Why do I need a history class to be a doctor????????????????  Useless things!!!!!!!

Thanks for your comment. I do agree that learning things like professionalism and how to interact w/ patients of different cultures is of paramount importance. However, I question how well a “class” can teach this…

I hear you, however I do think there is value to learning about art history and French lit, etc. I also think there is value in learning how to shovel manure….I think there is more to being a doctor than strictly “medicine.” just my two cents….
