Which Came First?
I’m post call right now, tired, and hungry, so I only have the energy right now to post something short. I was on call all day today in the psychiatric emergency room. The majority of my patients today had psychiatric complaints (depression, suicidal ideation) but also had very severe substance abuse problems (alcohol, cocaine, heroin). It can sometimes be difficult to tease out things like schizophrenia and depression and other psychiatric problems from substance abuse issues. Which came first? How to treat? Anyway, perhaps I will write more on this topic soon. In the meantime, please enjoy the photo with this post, taken close to my apartment on my walk to work today.
