Life is What Happens

“Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.”

Love Slave

The psychiatry consultation liaison service has been kicking my butt as of late. I have not the time to do much else. My life has become dominated by psychiatry. I have meetings and clinics and lectures and endless plans. I feel like I barely have time to catch my breath. Don’t misunderstand, I do love me some psychiatry. But I hear that there is also a whole other world out there, and I’m fantasizing about joining it again. It’s a good thing that I don’t have to concentrate on living to be alive (an obsession one of my patients has). But luckily, life has been filling in all the cracks in the woodwork.

This rambling was brought to you by my I-only-ate-a-cookie-and-a-banana-today brain. Now back to your regularly scheduled programming….

Being a physician is a full-time job.  It takes over your life because it should.  Get used to it.

I do agree that being a physician is more than a full-time job, but I also believe in balance in life! I am much more than just a physician…I am many other wonderful things, which I don’t like to forget!

I’m just entering my last month on Consult-Liaison.  It really is a beastly service.  I especially get annoyed how I have to get called for every single patient who disagrees with their hospitalist.  The medicine team seems to assume that if the patient disagrees they must be insane or incompetent – so I get called to do capacity evaluations on people who all score 30/30 on MMSE.
    Yeah – Love it!

    FYI – I’m doing a psych/random blog. http://thoughtsofasimplecitizen.blogspot.com/

I feel your pain. Yesterday was all capacity evaluations for me on patients who had absolutely no psychiatric problems but were simply mad at their primary docs!Ugggh!

Cool blog…will add it to my reading list!
